In 2023, Guy Jones asked me to make a folk tale story for Hothouse's upcoming folk tale event.
The only tale I could ever think of doing is “Jack and the beanstalk” and I thought if were going to do this we have to do this in the way Bernard Cribbins, Kenneth Williams and Tony Robinson did in Jackanory (Tony also did Fat Tulip's garden which was another inspiration).
I thought we need to honour both Jackanory and Fat Tulip and I think it's safe to say we did (well I did anyway).
I have loved the story as a kid and I hope this retelling will bring you back memories of
Jackanory and of
Fat Tulip's Garden.
