Festival of Light 2015

This year’s Diwali falls in the first half of November. It runs over 5 days and will culminate in Nottingham with a public celebration at Highfields Park and Lake, University Boulevard, Nottingham, Saturday 14 November 2015 from 3pm - 8pm.

The celebrations are free and open to all. They will start at 3 pm and will include performance, workshops, a parade of lights, music and food. It is a great chance to enjoy the night and to celebrate all the positive themes of the festival.

The festival is celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains. It coincides with the Hindu New Year and has the themes of new beginnings and the triumph of light over darkness and goodness over evil.

During Diwali, families and friends share sweets and gifts and there is also a strong belief in giving food and goods to those in need. It is also traditional for homes to be cleaned and new clothes to be worn at the time of the festival.
